Tennis — Kings Park Tennis Club

The tennis courts and pavilion are located near the skate park. Kings Park Tennis Pavilion was built in 1923 and still contains original fixtures and fittings. Kings Park Lawn Tennis Club was officially opened by Provost Gavin, with an exhibition match on 10th May 1924. Over the years, tennis has proved a very popular sport with local people. This Pavilion appears unique in Central Scotland, having spectator verandas on both sides. Previously the area to the right of the Pavilion was used for putting. Later, because of the popularity of the sport, there were tennis courts on both sides of the Pavilion. Seating was also available from the Park attendant, either to watch matches and competitions or for use when waiting to play. Tea and other refreshments were provided in the Pavilion for competitors and friends. As late as 1964, the tennis courts in Kings Park were being used to host Central District tennis competitions, which took place during Stirling Festival fortnight. Although tennis competitions no longer take place there, these courts are still well used.
