Tennis — Kings Park Tennis Club

Kings Park Lawn Tennis Club was officially opened by Provost Gavin, with an exhibition match on 10th May 1924, and over the years tennis has proved a very popular sport with local people.

The ground beside the Pavilion was previously used for putting. Later, as the sport grew, there were tennis courts on both sides of the Pavilion. As late as 1964, the courts here were hosting Central District tennis competitions during Stirling Festival fortnight.

The courts were resurfaced in porous tarmac and reopened after a renovation delivered by Stirling Council in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association. The work formed part of the Park Tennis Project — a £30 million joint investment by the UK Government and the LTA Tennis Foundation, billed as the largest ever investment in park tennis facilities in Britain — which transformed six courts across the Stirling area, here and at Memorial Park in Bridge of Allan at a combined cost of £153,000.

They were reopened on 27th October 2024 at an event attended by members of the local tennis club, alongside representatives of the LTA, Active Stirling and Stirling Council.

Competitive tennis has returned with them. The courts host Local Tennis Leagues, and Active Stirling arranges weekly Barclays Free Park Tennis sessions, delivered by Stirling Lawn Tennis and Squash Club. Courts can be booked in advance through the LTA website, with gate access technology so a booking guarantees a court.
