You are standing on the site of an ancient Roman road which, excavations have revealed, follows a route through the Park from the main entrance. This road is believed to continue towards the Knot and Raploch and on to several river crossing points, but the exact route of this road through Kings Park is not known.

A further stretch of the road has been recorded in a back garden in Snowdon Place, which helps confirm the line it takes across this side of the town. Aerial and satellite imagery suggests it continues inside the main gates.
