Kings Park Drinking Fountain

You are now at the main entrance of the Public Park. This Victorian-style ornamental drinking fountain is Listed by Historic Environment Scotland as a Category B cast iron structure. It was built by the Lion Foundry of Kirkintilloch and placed in the Kings Park in 1934. It was restored in 2006 through funding by Friends of Kings Park and Stirling City Heritage Trust.

A low box hedge and flower borders have been planted around this fountain to form a mini-parterre garden. The very attractive copper beech tree located near this fountain was planted for the semi-jubilee of George V in 1937.

Friends of Kings Park maintain the four borders around the fountain under an agreement with Stirling Council. Each year the group picks a planting theme that gives colour, interest and something to learn from, with a panel by each border explaining what is growing there. In 2026 the themes were sensory, pollinator, edible and prairie; the edible border has carried runner beans, broad beans, pak choi, cavolo nero, broccoli, nasturtiums, garlic, squash and sweetcorn. The plants are donated by volunteers.
