The Smith Art Gallery and Museum was built from the bequest of the artist Thomas Stuart Smith, on land provided by Stirling Burgh. It first opened to the public on 11th August 1874.

The Smith holds the town's collections of art and local history, including works connected with the Kings Park itself — among them the painting of the Herds Hoose shown earlier on this walk.
